Sri Adoor Gopalakrishnan

Sri Adoor Gopalakrishnan is a film maker who has created some of the most memorable films of Indian cinema, including “Swayamvaram”, “Elipathayam”, “Mukhamukham”, “Vidheyan” and “Nizhalkuthu”. His films frame details that often escape our everyday glance, turning the mundane into the magical, the common place into the startling. Through his extraordinarily varied protagonists, Adoor paints the canvas of the wider society in stark detail. His films have won numerous state, national and international awards. He was awarded the Dada Saheb Phalke award for his all-round contributions to the world of film making.

Smt. Rajashree Warrier

Smt. Rajashree Warrier is an eminent Bharatanatyam artist, accomplished Carnatic vocalist, author and media person. She has the ability to captivate her audience by bringing forth the inherent beauty of Bharatanatyam. Her prodigious talent, versatility and dedication are evidenced by her mastery of this art form.

The programmes presented on the Day

  • Dance programme by Smt. Rajashree Warrier
  • Raagasudharasa - Ragam based Musical programme. A tantalising ensemble of vocal and instrumental music, exploring a wide repertoire of ragas.
  • Bhagavadajjukam – Drama. A satirical play by Mahakavi Bhodayana, illustrating parakaya pravesham (or transmigration of souls) as practised by Guru to teach his shishyan Sandilya and the hilarious scenarios that arise as a consequence
  • Adoor, a cinematic Journey - Stage adaptation of Adoor’s Celluloid odyssey, involving the protagonists from Adoor’s films coming live on stage and interacting and dissolving into each other, in an attempt to explore the multi-layered characterisation, subtexts, and internal crises that Adoor has so skilfully portrayed on film, through imagery and nuanced cinematic techniques.
